When Memory Is a Chasm by Colette Love Hilliard

We’re lying in bed, our dog nestled

between us, and my love says,

“Aww, look at her wedged

in the slot canyon

of our hips.”

And I smile and scribble

down poetry and petroglyphs–

preserving the depth of our happiness.

Colette Love Hilliard is a writer and teacher from St. Louis, MO. She is the author of the blackout poetry book A Wonderful Catastrophe (Wood & Water Press, 2018), and her work has appeared in The Indianapolis Review, Sky Island Journal, Harpy Hybrid Review, and elsewhere.
